FAQ
What does "CHELT" mean?
CHELT is an acronym which sums up the nature of the treatment - “Cryotherapy and High Energy Laser Therapy”.
How is CHELT Therapy used?
It can be used in synergy or single mode: cryo and laser emission can be used separately and according to therapeutic requirements. The combined action amplifies the efficacy of the laser and allows deep-seated injuries to be reached.
What are the effects generated by CHELT Therapy?
CHELT Therapy generates bio-stimulant, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. The cold air also allows fast absorption of edema, without pain or side effects.
How is CHELT Therapy applied?
The first phase features the use of the high energy laser to generate the analgesic effect. Following this, cryo therapy consolidates the analgesic effect and reduces inflammation in the tissue. Finally the anti-inflammatory and draining therapy is continued with the application of the laser.
Is it possible to treat muscular injuries successfully?
CHELT Therapy, the innovative synergy between cryotherapy with cold, dry air at -30°C and MultiMode HEL Triax Lasertherapy, finds one of its best therapeutic applications in the treatment of muscular injuries. CHELT Therapy, by using cold, dry air at -30°C, slows cellular metabolism and reduces blood flow, impeding calcification of edema and allowing, by stopping extravasation, early investigation of the injury. Superficial vasoconstriction inhibits the flow of oxygenated haemoglobin, a chromophore for laser light, and so allows the laser to reach deeper into tissues, helping penetration of the Polimodal Triax laser. Thanks to the flexible modulation of energy in all the phases of treatment of muscle injuries, CHELT Therapy is a winning method which allows treatment of muscle injuries quickly, safely and effectively, without side effects and annoying relapses.
Is cryotherapy used to avoid the laser overheating the tissues?
Absolutely not. Cold dry air at -30° C acts as the carrier for the MultiMode HEL TriaX Lasertherapy, slowing cellular metabolism and reducing the bloodflow, stopping calcification of edema and, by stopping extravasation, allows early investigation of the injury. Superficial vasoconstriction inhibits the flow of oxygenated haemoglobin, a chromophore for laser light, and so allows the laser light to reach deeper into tissues, increasing penetration of the Polimodal Triax laser.
Are CHELT Therapy treatments dangerous?
CHELT Therapy treatments are completely safe and side-effect free. Nevertheless, a series of precautions are taken to constantly guarantee maximum safety. The MultiMode HEL Triax Lasertherapy of CHELT Therapy could damage the eyes, even if closed. For this reason both of the operator and the patient must wear protective glasses, bearing a suitable certification stamp, as supplied by the device manufacturer. Furthermore, during treatment the operator is in close contact with the patient and can change the power or the energy emission modes according to the sensation and feedback from the patient, thus guaranteeing maximum safety and the best therapeutic compliance.
Is CHELT Therapy painful?
CHELT Therapy is not painful and has no side-effects. The operator carries out the therapy by moving the applicator, which is made in a biocompatible material, across the skin of the patient, using a variety of movements, to treat the area concerned. During CHELT Therapy laser therapy the patients may experience a sensation of heat, and the painful or inflamed area being treated could become sensitive. For treatments using cryotherapy, the patient may feel a dry, cold sensation.
Can CHELT Therapy cause burns?
The therapy is dynamic and both of the laser applicator and the cryotherapy applicator are continuously moved across the skin, therefore it is practically impossible to reach dangerous conditions. Furthermore, during treatment the operator is in close contact with the patient and can change the power or the energy emission mode according to the sensation and feedback from the patient. CHELT Therapy features preset protocols which vary according to the photo type of the patient, to guarantee maximum safety. Operators who use CHELT Therapy are also suitably trained professionals. Only gross misuse by the operator could possibly cause burns on the skin.
Is CHELT Therapy dangerous or does it have side-effects?
CHELT Therapy is totally safe and side-effect free. It is possible that the area being treated could become slightly more red in colour at the end of the treatment. This is a normal hyperaemic effect which is usually associated with bio-stimulant treatments and disappears after a few hours.
What risks are associated with laser therapy using class IV lasers?
Treatments with MultiMode HEL Triax Lasertherapy are safe and side-effect free. Obviously the operator must be a suitably trained professional. Furthermore MultiMode HEL Triax Lasertherapy should not be administered directly on the eyes, thyroid and all areas and situations specified in the contraindications section of the manual supplied with the device. MultiMode HEL Triax Lasertherapy can be used safely in areas which include metallic prosthesis or open wounds in the acute phase.
Is it possible to treat an area where there is a tattoo?
Areas with tattoos can be treated with the necessary attention. Tattoos which are very dark in colour absorb laser light more, which could cause a rapid increase in skin temperature. During treatment the operator is in close contact with the patient and can change the power or the energy emission mode according to the sensation and feedback from the patient. The treatment is dynamic and both the laser applicator and the cryotherapy applicator are continually moved across the skin, therefore it is almost impossible to reach damaging situations. CHELT Therapy features preset protocols, which vary according to the photo type of the patient to guarantee maximum safety at all times. Finally, operators who use CHELT Therapy are suitably trained professionals. Only gross misuse by the operator could cause skin burns.
Is it possible to treat patients with dark skin?
Patients with type V or VI skin type based on the Fitzpatrick classification have a greater quantity of melanin in their skin, which is a chromophore for laser light, and are subject to a rapid increase in skin temperature during treatment using high intensity laser therapy. Even in this situation it is highly unlikely that CHELT Therapy could cause burns on the skin of the patient. Furthermore, the treatment is dynamic and both of the laser applicator and the cryotherapy applicator are continuously moved across the skin, therefore it is practically impossible to reach dangerous conditions. During treatment the operator is in close contact with the patient and can change the power or the energy emission mode according to the sensation and feedback from the patient. CHELT Therapy features preset protocols, which vary according to the photo type of the patient to guarantee maximum safety at all times. Finally, operators who use CHELT Therapy are suitably trained professionals.
Is it possible to treat patients with pacemakers?
CHELT Therapy does not interfere with pacemakers, therefore it is possible to treat patients fitted with such devices without any problem.
How many CHELT Therapy treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments required depends primarily upon the pathological condition of the patient and how the patient reacts to the therapy. For some acute pathologies, 3 to 5 treatments may be sufficient, while for chronic pathologies a greater number of treatments may be required. Nevertheless, benefits will be felt from the first treatment, which will give an important reduction in pain. Obviously, in order to optimize therapeutic results, correct diagnosis and suitable protocol are of fundamental importance.
How frequently can the patient be treated?
Normally the patient can be treated between 2 to 5 times a week. In a sporting context more than one treatment can be carried out daily. The professional operator will define the number of treatments most suitable for the patient depending upon the state of the pathology.
How long does treatment take?
CHELT Therapy treatments can vary in duration from a few minutes to some tens of minutes, depending upon the pathology, the required effect and the size of the area to be treated.
Is there a maximum number of treatments?
There is no maximum number of CHELT Therapy treatments which cannot be exceeded. CHELT Therapy treatments are safe and side-effect free. In sporting contexts more than one treatment can be carried out daily. Furthermore, the total number of treatments is at the discretion of the professional operator who, during the process of rehabilitation, decides how many treatments to be carried out and when to stop the therapy.
How long before the first results are seen?
It is possible to appreciate the benefits of CHELT Therapy immediately after the first treatment. Pain can be reduced significantly from the first treatments with just a few minutes application, thanks to the use of patented E²C mode, in synergy with the analgesic effect of cold, dry air at -30° C. Sometimes it is possible to feel the first benefits after a few treatments. Obviously, in order to optimize therapeutic results and benefits, correct diagnosis and an adequate therapeutic protocol are of fundamental importance.
Can CHELT Therapy be used in combination with other therapies?
Yes, CHELT Therapy can be used in combination with other physical therapies such as chiropractor treatment, osteopathy, massage, and mobilization of soft tissues. It can also be used following surgical operations. Other techniques or therapies can be used in synergy with CHELT Therapy to improve the rehabilitative process, increase efficacy of the therapy and reduce recovery times.
Is there any research which proves the efficacy of CHELT Therapy?
CHELT Therapy is the innovative synergy between cryotherapy with cold, dry air at -30° C and high powered patented multimode 30 W laser therapy with 3 wavelengths, which maximizes therapeutic results in both acute and chronic phases. There are thousands of scientific publications and research papers which demonstrate the efficacy of laser therapy, and the effects which it generates on biological tissues, and many scientific publications which demonstrate the efficacy and the effects of cold, dry air cryotherapy. Furthermore, in the Scientific Research section of this website it is possible to view an abstract of a scientific research document regarding CHELT Therapy.
How long has CHELT Therapy been used in rehabilitation, sports medicine and physical therapy?
